In-Browser Editing
New in 1Password 3 is the ability to edit or delete some types of Vault items right from your browser. If you need to make a quick change to a Login, Credit Card, or Identity, a simple keyboard shortcut is all you need when clicking the 1P browser button.
Edit 1Password items from your browser
Hold the Shift key in any browser with a 1P toolbar button, click the 1P button, and browse to the Logins, Credit Cards, or Identities menus to see an “Edit” prefix before each item (shown here). Clicking an item will reveal the in-browser editing window that gives you access to all of that item’s information.
Make your edits, then click “Save Changes” to work your 1Password kung-fu without ever opening 1Password.
Delete 1Password items from your browser
Just like editing items from your browser, you can hold a keyboard shortcut to send an item straight to 1Password’s trash (i.e., it isn’t deleted entirely right away. You still have the chance to restore these items before you empty 1Password’s trash).
To delete Logins, Credit Cards, or Identities from your browser, hold Shift+Option while clicking the 1P toolbar button. Instead of the “Edit” badge, you’ll see a “Delete” badge next to items:
Click an item to send it to 1Password’s trash. If you want to restore any items you delete from your browser’s toolbar button, you’ll need to open 1Password, check the trash, and drag items back into their Vault area in the sidebar.
Tips and things to know
- Safari users can press the Edit or Delete shortcuts after clicking the 1P toolbar button, or even swap between them live while viewing the button menu
- Firefox users must hold either the Edit or Delete shortcuts before clicking the 1P toolbar button. You cannot swap between Edit and Delete functions live while viewing the menu; you will have to deselect and press the other shortcut before clicking the button again
