Browser Integration

1Password offers something that no other software of this type can: direct web browser integration. You can configure which browsers 1Password should integrate with, as well where 1Password buttons appear in each browser. To see these browser preferences, click 1Password > Preferences, then click the Browsers pane. Below are explanations for the features and options found in this pane.

1P3 Preferences Browsers

Enable browser extensions

This is the master preference that can enable or disable our 1Password extensions across all your browsers. If you use many browsers and want to turn off all of their 1Password extensions at once, this is the easiest way to do it. You can also use the buttons in this section to install 1Password extensions for every browser you have, or remove every extension altogether.

Installing the Google Chrome extension

Click the “Install Google Chrome Extension” button at the bottom of the window to start using 1Password in Chrome. You’ll be taken to a page with further instructions.

Browser Display Settings

These settings allow you to customize which 1Password buttons and menus appear in your browser. Besides the browser toolbar button that is installed by default (and easily removable using your browser’s settings), we offer right-click contextual menus, a button in special authentication panels (like the pop-up dialogs for FTP sites and HTTP authentication sites), and a menu bar button (which usually appears next to your browser’s Help menu). You can toggle each of these buttons with these settings.

Advanced

Instead of using the “Enable browser extensions” buttons previously mentioned above, you can install (or remove) 1Password buttons in the specific browsers you choose. 1Password will prompt you to quit each browser before installing or removing an extension.
